⚲ Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand (South Island)
In classic Sara Marshall style, I managed to lock myself out of my room when I went to the loo – with everything inside. Really ideal.
At 5:50am, I wasn’t even sure if anyone would be at reception, and I started to panic slightly, thinking I might miss my bus. But us Marshalls don’t give up! A very kind man in the hallway helped by propping open the main door with his deodorant can (honestly, genius), so I wouldn’t get locked out again while I went to find help.
At first, reception was empty, and I really thought I wasn’t going to make it. But after doing a lap of the building, I came back to find a cleaner there. The relief was huge. I explained what had happened, and she helped me get back into my room. Honestly, thank you Sharon for being an absolute lifesaving legend!!
Reunited with my luggage and sanity restored (for now), I made it to the bus stop in time for my coach to Lake Tekapo – and just like that, I was off to the next stop on my Kiwi adventure!
As I waved goodbye to the Christchurch Cathedral, I thought about how starting my journey in Christchurch felt especially poignant.
The city’s story really resonated with me – after everything it has endured, it continues to rebuild and thrive. In many ways, that mirrors my own journey over the past five years. Whilst there may be scars that remain, it is possible to grow, rebuild, and flourish.
Hopefully I can heal and flourish too. (And these pretty views definitely can’t do any harm!)
Much Love,
Sara 💛
Song of the Day: “Oops!… I Did it Again”, Britney Spears. Need I explain? (I imagine this will not be the last of my chaos and shenanigans, but let’s hope for the best ey?)
